Simeoni goodbye to the tricolor

Resounding gesture of Filippo Simeoni! The Lombard champion, after the exclusion of his team Ceramica Flaminia from the Italian Tour (Giro d’Italia), has made a statement to “L’Equipe” threatening his resignation from the Italian champion title.
So that three-coloured jersey, from ever so aspired from cyclists and teams, is risking to stay without owner at least until next June, when there’ll be the next edition of the national kermis.
“It’s a strong feat against injustice, a provocation, a love gesture in favour of cycling”, says the thirty-seven-year-old runner from Desio to the French daily paper. “Is unacceptable that the champion of Italy cannot take part in the most important event of his town.”
The cyclist, who also won a stage on the pink run in 2006, points his own finger directly against the organization and adds “it is necessary to explain to the keens one why the national values aren’t respected, why the selection rules remain easily clear and favour only the commercial side and not the sports one”.
A provocation, an alarm or simply outburst of a runner came to the end of his own carreer?
